 Use 
 1. Describe an action happening at a particular time in the 
 past.
 Eg: At 7 p.m. last night, I was watching a movie.
 2. Indicate a past action that was happening when another 
 action interrupted it.
 Eg: I was cooking dinner when the phone rang
 3. Emphasise how long an action took and how much time 
 somebody spent doing it
 Eg: She was reading the book all morning. Ex 1 (p 43). Put the verbs in brackets in the past continuous. 
 1. My dad first met my mum when he (visit)
 __________________was visiting Hoi An Ancient Town.
 2. Tom had a nightmare while he (sleep)
 ______________was sleeping in the camp by the old castle.
 3. David hurt his foot while he (go)
 ___________downwas going the steps of the pagoda. Ex 1 (p 43). Put the verbs in brackets in the past continuous.

 microphone stopped working. WISH + PAST SIMPLE When do we use “wish + past simple”? We use wish + past form verb when:
 - We want something 
 now or in the future 
 to be different.
 - We talk about 
 situations that are 
 contrary to the 
 present reality. Structure
 Reality: He don’t have a family.
 Present simple
 Wish: He wishes he had a family.
 Past simple
 S + wish (es) + S + past simple Ex 3 (p 43). Put the verbs in brackets in the correct forms.

and Windsor Castle.
3. Do you wish we (have) _______had a swimming pool in
